A Federal High Court Judge in Lagos today ruled against an application to drop the case against former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode over money laundering charges.
Fani-Kayode is accused of 40 counts of money laundering and financial misappropriation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in transactions of over N500 million during his time as Minister of Aviation and Minister of Culture and Tourism.
Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia held that the charges were in order, and ordered that the former minister be re-arraigned.
In his application Mr. Fani-Kayode's lawyer, Ifedayo Adedipe, argued the charges of money laundering against his client were invalid and prosecution hadn't made the case from whom the alleged cash was obtained.
EFCC prosecution counsel, Mr. Festus Keyamo defended the money laundering charges and said they didn't need to state from whom money was received.
Mr. Fani-Kayode declined to take a plea while the amended 40 count charges were read to him in previous court dates.
Judge Ofili-Ajumogobia set 5th of March 2014 for Fani-Kayode's re-arraignment.
