She's the sensitive but no-nonsense lead
in M-Net soapie, Kona. Now her statuesque figure and acting prowess shall be seen in more Nigerian households.
The latest addition to the Historia Films family, Nini Wacera is currently in Lagos for the production of several Nigerian movies.
"I love Nigeria! The experience is intense and high
pressured. The directors are very keen on what they
need to achieve and I am amazed at the fact that they
have mastered the art of easy storytelling, low
production costs and high turnover," she says.
Nini, who starred in M-Net series, Changes, is also
championing another good cause with her recent
partnership with poet and activist Sitawa Wafula on a mental health resource centre for persons with mental
health conditions and their families.
She says: "At the moment we are looking for funding
to produce a talk show that provides positive
narratives, information, awareness and education about
mental health disorders and to provide tools and
information on maintaining mental health."
For now Kona's tough lady is relying on skills honed
from her time on the show to make the most of her
time in Nigeria where she's spending copious time with
her fellow Historia Films counterparts.
"[Nollywood directors] love to work under pressure
and my time shooting Kona prepared me for this. But
there's still time for an ice cream with my compatriot
actress Lizz Njagah!" she coos.
