Asks Nigerians to pray for Jonathan and the PDP.
Clerics visiting former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, were told not to stop praying for President Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP in these trying moments of contemporary Nigeria.
At his residence this weekend, Tukur told clerics he stood by every decision he made to reform the party to deepen democracy and make Nigerians proud in the comity of great nations.
“I did my best to bring PDP to good standard and international best practices on politics. I came in with the mind-set to reform the party by promoting the principle of election instead of selection and the idea of consensus instead of imposition."
Turkur said a mortal whom lead the party must be fearless, consistent and focused.
Without the doggedness and wisdom of President Jonathan in managing the affairs of the PDP, he added, the party would have collapsed given the evil plots by certain members to destroy the party.
He said his loyalty to President Jonathan and his government remained unflagging and he would continue to support them.
"I was the one advocating change in PDP. We did that successfully in Adamawa and it is working. We conducted transparent elections in Anambra and the best candidate won. We never favored any candidate during the process."
His resignation, he said was a huge sacrifice, but he went through difficult times while in office.
“…those who benefited from the rots within the party in the past stood in our way. My conviction is that very soon, Nigerians will know the truth. It then matters what the country would do with such truth.”
