HIV- Positive Man Commit Suicide In Ondo State, See How And Why?

Apparently devastated after testing positive to
HIV, a 45-year-old man, Abayomi Olarenwaju, has
allegedly hanged himself.

He reportedly hanged himself with a vehicle fan
belt in a bush near Akure South Local Government
Secretariat in the early hours of yesterday.

Checks revealed that the deceased, who
terminated his life without leaving a note, had just
been confirmed positive of the deadly virus.

It was gathered that since the hospital revealed
Olanrewaju's health status, his wife and other
family members had turned him to an outcast,
leaving him dejected. Consequently, he was said to
have lived in isolation until he allegedly
committed suicide.

Sources stated that his wife moved out of the
matrimonial home with their three children few
days after he came home with a medical report
that confirmed him as HIV positive. Other relations
and friends were also said to have deserted him
when the information spread to them through his wife.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public
Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Wole Ogodo, described
Olanrewaju's death as unfortunate, saying that his
remains had been released to his family.
